JD Baez

JD Baez – Artist Bio
JD Baez is a self-taught artist from Brooklyn, New York. He learned by studying the old
masters’ techniques, color theory, and by watching the world around him. His art isn’t
about perfection; it’s about presence. His favorite style is chiaroscuro because, similar to
life, it’s about the balance between light and shadow. JD paints people the way he sees
them, honest, flawed, strong, and still beautiful through the chaos. He doesn’t paint to
impress. He paints to connect. His Monochrome Series continues that connection,
focusing on emotion through simplicity. By singling out one color, he brings attention to
the raw layers of expression, the small shifts in light, the weight in someone’s gaze, the
quiet strength that lives in stillness.
He’s a husband, a father of six, and the main provider for his family, so a lot of his work
comes from the weight of that love. On his platform, JD often talks about how being a
full-time artist comes with financial, physical, and at times, mental challenges, but those
moments built his discipline. They taught him that art isn’t just passion; it’s survival.
Over the years, JD has spoken at schools, libraries, and led art tutorials for children
because he believes kids need to see that art can create opportunities, and that it can
feed you mentally, spiritually, and financially. He’s worked with companies like Meeden,
Trekell, and Strathmore to create educational resources for artists who don’t have access
to tools or training. His publications include The Art of Survival vs. The Art of Passion
with places such as The HeadLight Review, The Word Faire, Art Wife Magazine, and
Welter University. JD currently has an art installation at The Plaza Pay Mall located in the
Bronx. He’s also building an app to help artists create content more efficiently, giving
them more time to actually create. JD is developing courses and workshops designed to
help artists focus on their craft instead of the algorithm.
